The Establishment and First Seminar of the Standard Working Group for Automobile Brake Shoes (Blocks) Held in Xianyang, Shaanxi Province In accordance with the requirements of the "Administrative Regulations on National Professional Standardization Technical Committees" (Guobiao Wei Ban [2009] No. 3) issued by the Standardization Administration of China, the "Notice on Matters Concerning the Establishment and Management of Standard Formulation Working Groups" (Guobiao Wei Zonghe [2009] No. 32), and the document of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Non-Metallic Mineral Products and Products (Quan Fei Kuang Biao Wei [2012] No. 005), the meeting for the establishment and first seminar of the working groups for formulating the two standards, namely "Automobile Disc Brake Pad Assemblies" and "Automobile Drum Brake Shoe Assemblies", was held in the morning of May 22, 2012 in Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province. The formulation of these two industry standards, "Automobile Disc Brake Pad Assemblies" and "Automobile Drum Brake Shoe Assemblies", is a major event in China's automobile industry, automobile brake industry, and automobile friction material industry. It not only fills the gap in China's standards for automobile brake shoes (blocks) but also is of great significance for improving the technical level of China's automobile friction materials, ensuring the braking effect of automobile brakes and the entire vehicle, and enabling the technical performance to approach or reach the international advanced level. Those attending the meeting included over 30 people, such as Director Pan Beichen from the First Department of Industrial Standards of the Standardization Administration of China, Director Zhang Chenglin from the Standardization Division of Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, Chairman Yin Xiaodong of Xianyang Non-Metallic Mineral Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd., Senior Engineers Zhang Mingyuan, Yang Bin, and Ren Xiaoshan from the Technical Center of China FAW Group Co., Ltd., Deputy Chief Engineer Zhang Yaoju from the Commercial Research Institute of Dongfeng Automobile Co., Ltd., Technical Quality Director Li Yingsheng from Jiangsu Hengli Brake Co., Ltd., Chief Engineer Ye Jialing from Xiamen Lixingda Friction Material Co., Ltd., as well as representatives from automobile factories, brake factories, and automobile friction material production enterprises. The meeting was presided over by Comrade Lei Jianbin, Secretary-General of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Non-Metallic Mineral Products and Products and Deputy Director of the Friction Material Sub-Technical Committee of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Non-Metallic Mineral Products and Products. The participating representatives analyzed the development status and trends of China's current product standards, and conducted in-depth discussions, analyses, and exchanges on issues such as the scope of application, technical requirements, test methods, as well as the advancement and practicability of these two standards. The representatives generally believed that the formulation of these two standards is very necessary and timely. It is necessary to widely solicit opinions from all parties, strive to improve the technical level of the standards, conduct sufficient tests and demonstrations, so that the standards can become industry standards that are generally accepted and adopted by the automobile and automobile parts industry. The meeting discussed the work arrangement for the next stage and decided to hold the second standard seminar in the second half of 2012.
